Inspiration: Gaudi

my inspiration this week is gaudi.

this is a photo taken by me when i was in spain.

Gaudi is amazing, i love his color pallette, and his use of virbant colors and connecting them to nature. He was truly unbelievable. so sad that he died by being hit by a car? hmm sucks.
but yeah. i loved the avant-garde architecture that he built. it had so much character. definitely something new.

HIGHLIGHT of barcelona! love himmm

process

My process for the first set of posters ive ever done for typography.

I think i improved i guess. and i tried hard to not make things look so..arbitrary? is that the word?

so yeah. i hope it looks better.
and possibily this is the poster that ill be turning in at the end of the semester.

Inspiration

While i was on the trip to new york, i went to the museum of art and design.
they had one of my favorite exhibits that ive ever seen. the "slash: Paper under the knife" exhibit was SICK SICK SICK.
first off, the first thing we saw as we entered the room was a giant paper upside down paper sculpture of a ship. it was ridiculous...
and it didnt hurt that we got in for free.
i was in awe when i entered the exhibit. i cant believe everything was made of paper.
it was extremely tedious work. and made and held together by objects you can find in your dad's office. Like computer paper, and paperclips. a very inexpensive project. but wow. crazy jawn.

inspiration

So the process for this radial poster that i have been working on for 2 weeks seems to have came a long way.

first i was looking at doing something like the tan one with a nuclear sign in the center. then i thought it was too simple, so i decided to use a ton of them lightly for the background and add some illustration. hence the second picture.

but ashley mentioned how i overlooked an opportunity for a great idea. so changed it and ended up with the final.

Although i dont really care for horizontal posters that much, i do think this change was the best idea for this poster.

im sure it could use a lot of other changes that i cant currently think of at the time.

but this is what i have for now.

inspiration 4

surprised to say that i have connected with a couple of the paintings that i learned while studying for my art history midterm.
The two paintings that i am in LOVE with is:

Nocturne in black and gold: the falling rocket. by whistler

im in love with the organic way this artist portrayed fireworks and people. His brushstrokes are so fast but they seem to blend with each other rather well, to create an almost abstract piece of work.
i am a huge fan of the colors.

Also, another piece. Summer, by dewing
This piece to me is SO gorgeous! i love the colors! and the blending of them. From what i understand, they are colors that are next to each other (no blending at all) but as you step back, it creates an effect.

Although ill probably fail my art history exam, at least i got something out of it..

process #3

Starting my dilational poster. I havent added the text yet but for the most part its half way done. I used a circle as the theme of the whole poster.
Also, to go with that whole dilational theme..."ben folds" follows the line of the circle.
I'm actually really nervous to get to the text part. since...ashley seemed to kinda..rip peoples apart. we'll see how it goes.
i hope people get the piano part on the side of the circle.

INSPIRATION:

I thought this image was pretty awesome. This is an aerial view of someones work. and guess what this is made out of....PENNIES!
thought that was cool. i wonder how this person gridded this out since its so long and big AND PERFECT. You can compare it with the person riding a bike beside it (i think its a bike)
This inspires me because it made me realize that i can make a piece of art out of ANYTHING. If this huge, famous art piece was made out of pennies, then there are endless possibilities of making an amazing piece of work using anything.

Process #2

The theme for the next two posters that are due on Wednesday, is using the "radial" technique. Basically following the track of circles and their angles. I had no idea what to do with this poster, until i saw this image online that i was inspired from.

I thought this form was interesting. You can obviously tell it was an incomplete cirlce, yet you know what it was. I thought i could play with this a little bit in my poster.

So i did some scketches thinking of ways that i may be able to incorporate this idea into my poster. Although the sketch is quite rough and blurry, i thought it would end up somewhat looking like this:

And...this time i changed my band to benfolds.
theyre quite talented.
awesome!

inspiration II

For some reason i found this image to be inspiring to me. Although technically it is just an image of a giant blue circle..but what i know from this image is that the circle is perceived differently in every angle. I love the way the circle has different perspectives through the multiple panels it is on.

I found this image on a website, and i am unable to find the artist of this piece which is unfortunate. But i believe the artist created a series based on this piece, and has created a variety of the same artwork in different colors. Also, they all differ from the perspective they all provide.

The reason why i thought this artwork was important to me was because i would love to make pieces that change depending on perspective. This piece to me is more like a 1+1=34656799827348

Process

Assignment: make 2 posters every week for the rest of the semester. 8 weeks.16 posters.

Out of all the bands i decided to make posters for...i decided to choose death cab for cutie. It was a hard choice between Oren Lavie and Death cab since they both have a nice organic style. but i decided that Death cab might be a better band to make 16 posters to since a) they have more songs and albums and b) their lyrics seem to inspire me just a little more than Lavie.
i started my first poster with just a photo i took of bokeh as the background.
I'm planning on hand drawing the font of the bands name, and possibly a little illustration on the side.
I'm having trouble with the sponsers. I do wish the white didnt show though.
we shall see how this works out...

edible bling

Alright..
According to type two, i am now to write blogs about my inspirations. Which is fine since now i don't have any excuse to not write on my blog.
I find an inspiration of mine to be candy.
Those who know me are probably not surprised about my obsession with sweets, but little do they know that the look of them catch my attention as well. This is a photo that i took of ringpops. What i found interesting about these delectable candies were their transparent qualities. I had a project and my ideas included putting them to the light. I loved the colors that they illuminated. When a bunch of them were grouped together they looked so beautiful next to the light. The colors were brilliant and so rich.
I know it may sound weird, along with the other inspirations that i will post in the future, but ringpops are one of the many that inspire me.

Hotel Opera in Madrid

After the rough night and morning in the airport and the plane. We FINALLY got to the hotel. All of my hotels are 4 and 5 stars. Which explains the awesomeness or the hotel rooms. Although they may look sort of small, the decor is stylish and modern. I completely am in love with it. And as you can see, they use lime green blankets. yes..my favorite color. Spain knows me so well!

You would love the bathroom by the way. Because the door is made of glass and so is the walls. Not that they are see through or anything...but frosted. So its kind of funny since you can see peoples shadow through them haha. The sink is really modern and new since its not just a concave, but kind of just a downward slope. And the shower has no door! yeah. You see that opening on the left of the shower in the picture? Yes....that is just the opening. What sucks is that itty bitty trashcan in the right bottom corner is the only trash can we have in the whole room. You know I'm too lazy to walk all the way to the bathroom to throw something as small as a piece of hair away. sigh... I will try to send you more blogs. But i realize this takes me forever to upload pictures because the internet is unbelievably slow here.

So what im trying to tell you! is that this hotel is so chic. I love it so. I shall miss it when i leave to Sevilla on Saturday on January the ninth.

Enjoy.

Christine

Airport Catastrophe.

The flight to spain was unbelieveably stressful. The whole program had to meet at the Newark airport in New Jersey, and with MY LUCK someone breached the security when i was moments away from getting screened. My flight was to depart at 8:20 pm, but we were asked to come 3 hours in advanced. I arrived at the airport at 6:00 pm. But because of the incident, all of the people who were already screened and at the gates, were evacuated and screened again. It was a huge mess. It took us another 4 extra hours to get through security, and all the planes were to be delayed because of the inconvenience. Our plane was to launch at 12:30 am. Luckily i made it right on time, but the group members were far behind and we couldnt split up and meet each other in spain. Thus, the only thing we could do was to stall as much as we can. It was ridiculous. I mean, we got to the plane and I'm here! But this is one of the most stressful airport experience i have ever had, and you should know Tiffany, that i have had PLENTY.

I believe the picture above tells it all. It is the line to the security.

Enjoy, and be lucky that you did not have to share my pain.

Christine
